A bill banning sexually explicit books from the children’s and young adult sections of city public libraries is on its way to the Texas Senate.
The Texas House advanced the bill to the Senate on Friday with a vote of 82-53. Three Democratic representatives from South Texas joined Republicans in supporting the proposal.
The bill would require librarians to remove all “sexually explicit” materials from the children’s and young adult sections of the stacks, and mandate them to verify patrons’ ages before checking out those materials.
