Studies Suggest Omicron Poses Lower Risk Of Hospitalization

Two new studies suggest the omicron variant of the coronavirus could be much less likely than the delta variant to lead to severe illness or hospitalization.  Researchers at Scotland’s University of Edinburgh [[ ED-in-burr-a ]] found omicron’s risk of hospitalization is two-thirds that of delta.  A study out of South Africa, where omicron was first detected, indicates people with omicron infections are 80-percent less likely to wind up in the hospital than those who contract other strains of the virus.
