New research shows Black women are three times more likely to die of COVID-19 than white men. Researchers at the University of Maine studied coronavirus mortality patterns in Georgia and Michigan by race and gender.
They found that Black women are dying from the virus at a higher rate than any other group except for Black men. Many scientists had previously believed that men were more likely to die of the coronavirus than women. The study says one factor could be the roles played by Black women in the workforce.
