Tesla VP Blasts Reports Blaming Autopilot For Deadly Crash

A Tesla executive says the self-driving system in their cars was not to blame for a deadly crash earlier this month in Texas. Lars Moravy, the vice president of vehicle engineering, says there’s new evidence that proves there was a driver behind the wheel when the car ran off the road.

Police in Harris County told reporters nobody was in the driver’s seat when the Tesla hit a tree and caught fire, killing the two men inside. Moravy says that’s not possible. He insists the autopilot only works when there’s a driver who is buckled in.
