The Texas Comptroller’s Office wants area residents to be aware that it’s holding on to 125-million dollars in unclaimed money from the Rio Grande Valley. The state started tracking unclaimed money in 1962 and currently holds on to about ten-billion dollars in assets.

The state says there is no statute of limitations, so the money will remain in limbo until it is claimed. The comptroller’s office is holding a free event in McAllen on Thursday to help people see if they can collect any unclaimed money. Texas residents can also go to the state’s unclaimed property website to find more information.
