A Texas House Democrat who fled the state for Washington, DC, is back in Austin. Harold Dutton of Houston returned Tuesday, saying he wants to get some concessions on the election integrity bill his party calls voter suppression.

Dutton, who is black, says he originally traveled to Texas over the weekend to get a garage door fixed, then heard about the coronavirus outbreak among his colleagues in DC. He says going back to DC became a “no-go” because his sister is staying at his house while she gets cancer treatments.
