Several Texas Democrats are reportedly thinking of challenging US Senator John Cornyn in the 2026 election. Cornyn already faces a challenge in the GOP primary from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who leads in early polls.
Beto O’Rourke, who has run unsuccessfully for senator, governor, and president, may enter the race. Former US Congressman Colin Allred of Dallas, who lost his challenge to US Senator Ted Cruz last year, is also reportedly thinking of running. So are US Congressman Joaquin Castro of San Antonio and state Representative James Talarico of Austin.
