The Texas House is giving the green light to a Senate bill to ban diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in hiring and training for public schools. State representatives approved Senate Bill 12 on Sunday.

The bill would enact a policy similar to the state’s 2023 ban on DEI in Texas public universities. Also called a parental rights bill, the legislation strengthens parental notification and consent requirements concerning certain issues. The bill would enable parents to opt their kids into sexual education and family planning courses.
