Texas House Republicans Want Democrats To Return

Texas House Republicans are encouraging Democrats to return to Austin for the special session. The Republican caucus held a news conference Tuesday afternoon with Caucus Chair Jim Murphy saying representatives were elected to do work instead of wasting money.

Murphy says the only way to work on legislation is for there to be a quorum at the Texas Capitol. He adds there’s no need to do any more negotiations on an elections bill Democrats have called voter suppression, calling it a great bill. He adds amendments can be offered.

House and Senate Democrats left the state for Washington, DC Monday to prevent a vote on the elections bill. The bill has been criticized by President Joe Biden.
