Texas judges will receive a long-awaited pay raise after the state House and Senate worked things out at the last minute. The 25 percent raise for judges is the first since 2013, and increases their base pay to 175 thousand dollars. It also triggers a pension increase for lawmakers.
House members added an amendment to decouple them, but the Senate rejected it. On Sunday, the two chambers reached a compromise. Legislative pensions will increase with judicial pay this time, but will be decoupled come 2030.
