Texas leaders are responding to Wednesday’s assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk was pronounced dead several hours after he was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University.

In social media posts prior to the announcement of Kirk’s death, Governor Greg Abbott, Senator John Cornyn, and Senator Ted Cruz said they were praying for him.

Attorney General Ken Paxton denounced the shooting as an “act of pure evil.” Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick blamed the shooting on the “outright hate against conservatives in this country by many in the political opposition.”
