The Texas Lottery is under new management as of Monday. A new state law abolished the Texas Lottery Commission and transferred the Texas Lottery to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The state agency regulates and licenses a long list of occupations, businesses, and facilities. The state legislature had considered abolishing the lottery altogether after two huge controversial jackpot payoffs in 2023 and 2025 that led to investigations and resignations. The new law also bans online lottery ticket sales.
