The Texas Rangers are investigating the first death in the Bexar [[ bear ]] County jail this year. Officials say Tammy Hovland’s cellmate attacked her about a month ago, and she died in the hospital last Saturday morning.
The medical examiner’s office says Hovland died from blunt force and strangulation injuries. Her death was ruled a homicide. The suspect was charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury at the time of the attack. Sheriff Javier Salazar says the Rangers may upgrade the charge.
