The Edinburg CISD has become the third school district in the Valley to join a pilot program giving rapid coronavirus tests to students, teachers, and other district employees.
Under the program, the Edinburg school district has been given 12,640 rapid antigen test kits. Personal protective equipment is also provided to those who give the tests. Results are known in about 15 minutes.
The goal of the pilot project is to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus on school campuses and speed the process of getting students back to in-classroom learning.
The Harlingen and Brownsville school districts are also participating in the program, which is being administered jointly by the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
