TWC Dealing With Spike In Suspicious Unemployment Claims During Pandemic

The Texas Workforce Commission is dealing with hundreds of thousands of suspicious unemployment claims filed last year. The state was already handling a larger volume of legitimate claims because the pandemic shutdowns.

In 2019, the agency received just over 11-hundred suspicious claims out of about 657-thousand. Last year, out of more than four-million claims, 234-thousand were suspicious. The agency says the suspicious claims are made possible through identity theft.
