Two people are dead after a chase and crash in the Laredo area. Law enforcement began chasing an SUV early Thursday after a report that the vehicle was involved in human smuggling.
The SUV refused to stop for state troopers but wound up crashing into a light pole. Two people inside the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was arrested but managed to escape, stealing two vehicles, including a DPS unit.
Troopers arrested the suspect at U.S. 85 South in Laredo. The case is still under investigation.
