UN: Nearly 3M Refugees Fled Their Homes In 2020

The United Nations says nearly three-million refugees fled their own countries despite the coronavirus pandemic. Approximately 82-million people fled their homes last year, making one percent of the world displaced.

The U.N. says that number is one-point-five million fewer than it would have been under non-COVID circumstances. Roughly 48-million people were internally displaced while the rest left their own country due to conflict, human rights violations or persecution.
