The U.S. Department of Agriculture is telling the public about the safest ways to defrost turkeys for Thanksgiving.
The USDA recommends for longest storage, thawing turkeys in the refrigerator.
The department said this is the safest method and allows the turkey to thaw at a consistent temperature. It is recommended to allow 24 hours for every four to five pounds of turkey.
Once a turkey is completely thawed it is safe to store in the fridge for about two days.
