UTRGV Seeking Athletic Fee Increase To Fund Football Program

The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley is taking steps to raise money to fund a college football program and related activities.

A proposal submitted to the Student Government Association will seek to increase the school’s current intercollegiate athletics fee. The university said in a statement yesterday that the money raised would go toward forming a football program, establishing marching bands at the Edinburg and Brownsville campuses and expanding spirit programs at both locations.

A women’s swimming and diving program would also be started under the proposal. If approved, the increase would begin next year.
