A truly revolutionary vaccine. That’s how Cameron County Health Authority Dr. James Castillo is describing the Pfizer and BioNTech coronavirus vaccine that is now being given out to frontline healthcare workers across the country. Castillo says the coronavirus vaccine is a major technological advancement because, unlike other vaccines, it doesn’t contain any of the live virus:

Castillo also says it’s a double-dose vaccine and a second shot is required for it to work. But Castillo says there are still a few unknowns. Because it’s not clear how long the vaccine will provide immunity from the coronavirus, it may need to be an annual vaccine. Castillo also says it may be longer-lasting but one which will later require a booster shot.
