Valley Public Health Official Reflects On New Insulin Co-Pay Cap

A Valley public health official talks about a state measure under consideration to cap insulin co-payments. Cameron County health authority Doctor James Castillo said Monday the insulin cap approved by state lawmakers is the first step in a larger process to reduce the price of insulin across the board.

The statement comes after state lawmakers approved Senate Bill 827 to cap insurance co-payments at 25-dollars for a monthly dose of insulin.

The measure only applies for those with private health insurance, not those on Medicaid nor for the uninsured. Doctor Castillo says diabetics with weak coverage or no insurance at all can find insulin options available at InsulinHelp-dot-Org.
