After two months of lower employment in the Rio Grande Valley, March saw a turnaround in the local job market. Unemployment fell point-9 percent in the Brownsville-Harlingen metro area to an even 10 percent.
The jobless rate fell point-8 percent in the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area to 11-point-2 percent. Unemployment statewide was unchanged last month. However, there was new hiring in all but one of the 11 economic sectors measured by the Texas Workforce Commission.
The largest job gains came in the Leisure and Hospitality industry and the construction industry. Only the government sector subtracted jobs.
