A study of a new potential treatment for COVID-19 is being conducted in the Rio Grande Valley. DHR Health is taking part in the first study of the use of human polyclonal antibodies to treat patients who’ve contracted COVID-19.

In the study, adult patients with mild to moderate symptoms of COVID-19 are infused with polyclonal antibodies. The goal is to see how well they work in keeping the symptoms from becoming worse.

Currently, COVID patients are able to be treated with monoclonal antibodies which have also been shown to keep patients from having to be hospitalized. Doctors say the polyclonal antibodies appear to be more effective against variants of the coronavirus.
