Veterans Bridge Expansion Project Gets Green Light

Construction is expected to begin soon on the planned expansion of the Veterans International Bridge, thanks to the approval of an agreement between Customs and Border Protection and Cameron County.

The CBP’s Office of Field Operations has executed a Donations Acceptance Agreement – a program that partners the public and private sectors to fund improvements at land ports of entry when federal dollars alone are unavailable. At the Veterans Bridge, the agreement will pay for four more northbound lanes and a larger secondary inspection area, among other related improvements.

Officials say the $15 million project will ease congestion on the passenger vehicle lanes, and in turn decrease the wait times and increase cross-border trade activity.
