South Texas physicians are warning that measles cases in an immigrant detention center can quickly spiral out of control.

Dr. Lee Rogers at UT Health San Antonio called the situation “dire” because of the large number of people being held in close quarters. He shot a letter to the Department of State Health Services, saying it could “overwhelm” local resources.

If those held in Dilley are released en masse, he says it could turn an “outbreak” into an “epidemic.”
