A woman’s emergency room COVID-19 test bill is more than 12-thousand dollars. KRGV reported Saturday that the McAllen woman was feeling ill and went to the emergency room to get the COVID-19 test which ultimately came back negative. She later got a bill for more than 12-thousand dollars, which includes a treatment facility fee and an observation fee.
Doctor Robert Martinez with DHR Health in Edinburg says unfortunately emergency rooms charge more than urgent clinics. He says even so, the bill seems exorbitant given that normally a COVID-19 test might be billed at most at a few thousand dollars.
