Woman’s Death Prompts Upgraded Murder Charge Against Pharr Man

An attempted murder charge against a Pharr man has been upgraded to murder following the death of the woman he allegedly shot.

Hidalgo County authorities elevated the charge against 20-year-old Juan Jose Trevino after doctors removed 19-year-old Wendy Escobedo from life support Tuesday.

Escobedo had been in critical condition since October 30th when sheriff’s officials say Trevino had gone to the El Paraiso drive-thru outside of Alton to confront his girlfriend about something. He eventually drove away but then opened fire in the direction of the store. A bullet struck Escobedo in her head. Trevino remains jailed with a heightened bond of $1 million.
