Two Men Charged In Deadly Hit-And-Run
Two Valley men have been formally charged in the hit-and-run death of an Edinburg bicyclist. Emilio Gomez and Nelson Cantu, both 23, were brought into Edinburg Municipal Court this afternoon, where Gomez was hit with charges of intoxication manslaughter, causing an accident involving death, and evidence tampering. Cantu was charged with failing to report a crime.
Investigators say Gomez was driving a pickup truck that struck 38-year-old Eddie Arguelles as he rode his bike on the Expressway 281 frontage road near Trenton early Thursday morning. The impact sent Arguelles flying into the air -- his body landing in the back of the pickup. Another cyclist called 9-1-1, and Edinburg police, responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle, spotted Gomez and Cantu trying to dump Arguelles body in a canal.
