Several local civil rights groups are joining a lawsuit challenging the repeal of the Texas Dream Act.
The federal Justice Department sued the state over the 2001 law, which provides in-state tuition to thousands of illegal immigrant students. After Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton declined to defend the law, the Texas Civil Rights Project, the ACLU of Texas, Democracy Forward, the National Immigration Law Center, and other parties filed a motion on Tuesday night to defend the law’s constitutionality.
