Following the recent resignation of its director, Houston Solid Waste Management is dealing with weeks-long delays in recycling pickups.
Director Mark Wilfalk stepped down in March after unsuccessfully advocating for a monthly trash and recycling collection fee similar to those in place in Dallas, San Antonio, and other major Texas cities.
Mayor Sylvester Turner appointed Wilfalk to head the department in 2021. Right now the city is waiting for the completion of a new recycling plant, which is expected to open next year.
