The ringleader of a human smuggling operation, linked to the death of 53-illegal immigrants in San Antonio, has been ordered to spend two life sentences locked up.

It was shown at trial that Felipe Orduna-Torres was charging Central Americans about 15-thousand dollars to be shipped from the border town of Laredo to San Antonio. The big rig’s air conditioner broke, trapping them in a sweltering cargo container. The dead included six children and a pregnant mom.

Federal Judge Orlando Garcia said, during sentencing, that this has been the most horrific crime he’s seen in his three-decades on the bench.
