A proposed tax increase for early childhood education won’t be on the Harris County ballot in November. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo had proposed the property tax hike to continue paying for child care programs that are funded with federal pandemic relief money, which expires next year.
Hidalgo cast the only vote in favor of the proposal, which all four commissioners opposed. The discussion at Thursday’s meeting turned to shouting and insults before it was over. The measure wasn’t placed on the ballot before the noon deadline.
