San Antonio-area school districts are preparing to enforce a new state law that bans cell phones in schools starting this school year.

Governor Greg Abbott signed the bill into law a few days ago in Amarillo. School districts are required to come up with policies prohibiting students from using cell phones on school property during the school day.

Most local school districts say they’ll allow students to bring a phone to school, but it must be turned off and put away. Parents who need to get in touch with their kids can call the front office.
