The City of McAllen is taking action against bars that are allegedly violating the conditions of their special use permits or operating without a permit.
The city filed civil actions against four downtown bars yesterday for failing to comply with state and local ordinances. The city sued three other bars on Friday. Bar owners or their representatives also appeared in court to enter pleas related to 34 misdemeanor citations yesterday.
The pleas resulted in over 11-thousand dollars in fines. City officials say they will continue the crackdown on businesses in the Entertainment District to ensure public safety and protect the community.
