A former employee of the Starr County District Attorney’s Office is going to prison after pleading guilty to human smuggling.

Bernice Annette Garza pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport undocumented people within the United States last year. She admitted to using a D.A.’s Office vehicle to help smuggle people from Rio Grande City to Houston. She was sentenced last week to three years in prison and two years on supervised release.
