A South Texas congressman has broken with his Democratic colleagues to vote in favor of a deal to end the federal government shutdown.
Laredo Congressman Henry Cuellar was one of six Democrats who voted with Republicans to approve the deal yesterday. Cuellar was the only Texas Democrat to vote in favor of the proposal.
Cuellar said he voted for the deal because the shutdown was causing unnecessary hardship for his constituents. He urged Congress to work in a bipartisan manner to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits before they expire at the end of this year.
