A Cameron County community has a new police chief. Alvaro Garcia was sworn in as chief in Santa Rosa Tuesday.
Garcia began his law enforcement career in Harlingen in 1993, and previously served as police chief in Palm Valley.
Garcia was found guilty of tampering with government records while serving as Palm Valley’s chief in 2023. That verdict was reversed by the Texas Court of Appeals last year.
