Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is sharing criticism for reports that 15-hundred active-duty soldiers are ready for possible deployment to Minnesota amid ongoing anti-ICE protests.
During an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union,” Frey says the move is “clearly designed to intimidate.” The mayor also called for ICE to leave the city, saying that people will see ‘calm’ in Minneapolis once they do. His comments come as President Trump has also reportedly considered invoking the Insurrection Act in the state.
Protesters have been met with counter-demonstrations and Minnesota’s Director of Public Safety called on residents to avoid confrontation and focus on the peaceful expression of their views.
