Houston police are trying to figure out why a teenage girl who was shot at a party was driven nearly 40 miles across town to a hospital, where she died.

Officers responded around 12:30 a.m. Saturday to a disturbance report at a house party on Dagg Road near Pasadena. There were about 300 people at the party, and officers say shots were fired as they arrived, scattering the crowd.

Investigators say 17-year-old Mariah Alatorre was wounded, and her friends drove her to an urgent care on FM 1960. She later died at a nearby hospital. So far police are looking for witnesses, and no arrests have been made.
