Sentencing is delayed two or three months for a man convicted in the deadly human smuggling case in 2022. Homero Zamorano Jr. drove the tractor-trailer that was used to smuggle 67 illegal immigrants, including children, in June 2022.
The truck was abandoned on Quintana Road, and 53 people died inside the sweltering trailer. Sentencing was set for Wednesday, but the judge says a witness was unable to fly to San Antonio from New Mexico due to severe weather, and then couldn’t set up a Zoom appearance. Zamorano faces a sentence of up to life in prison.
