A Cameron County commissioner is facing a DWI charge after a crash earlier this week. The Brownsville Police Department says Precinct Two Commissioner Joey Lopez was arrested after a crash in the 11-hundred block of Ruben M. Torres Boulevard on Tuesday.
Investigators say the incident was a minor traffic crash, but that Lopez was at fault and showed signs of impairment at the scene.
Lopez was charged and released on a 25-hundred-dollar bond. Lopez released a statement apologizing for his actions and saying he will fully cooperate with the investigation.
