Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has fired U.S. Navy Secretary John Phelan. The Pentagon issued a statement Wednesday saying they were grateful for Phelan’s service and wished him well in his future endeavors.

Phelan was the first Navy Secretary in 15 years with no experience in the armed forces. The former businessman was also a top GOP donor. The shakeup comes as the U.S. is carrying out a naval blockade of Iranian ports during a ceasefire in the Iran war.

U.S. Central Command said on Wednesday that it has blocked 31 ships from entering Iranian ports so far and that most of them have been oil tankers.
