Bexar County residents are the owners of more than 492 million dollars in unclaimed property.

Businesses and banks report money to the state that’s been abandoned by the owner, usually for at least one to three years. It can take the form of uncashed checks, overpayments, inactive bank accounts, insurance proceeds, mineral interests, and the contents of safe deposit boxes, but not vehicles or real estate.

To find out if you have unclaimed money, check the website ClaimItTexas.gov, or call 800-321-2274.
