The number of Texans receiving food stamps is down about 14 percent since last year, part of a reported nationwide decline. Last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act introduced various restrictions and work requirements for food assistance.

As of the end of April, Texas reported just over three million eligible Texans participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP. That’s down half a million from April of last year.
