An expanded statewide disaster declaration is in effect in response to the arrival of the New World screwworm in Texas.
Governor Greg Abbott signed the declaration during a news conference in Austin on Friday. He said the order authorizes the use of “all available resources of state government to respond to this disaster.” A
few hours later, the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed a second case of screwworm in Zavala County, within six miles of where the first case was detected last Wednesday.
