Governor Greg Abbott wants an audit of how four Texas school districts are spending their money. On Wednesday, the governor asked state Comptroller Don Huffines to conduct the audits in an effort to eliminate “administrative bloat.”
Huffines said he would announce the targeted districts in the weeks ahead. But at a campaign stop in El Paso on Wednesday, Abbott said the Austin and El Paso ISDs keep growing their budgets despite declining enrollment. He said he plans to introduce a bill requiring school districts to spend at least 70 percent of their funds in the classroom.
