An appeals court says a new law that allows the state to override local city ordinances is constitutional. The Texas Legislature passed the law in 2023 that enables the state government to overturn cities’ left-leaning policies that clash with state law and keep them from enacting similar future ordinances.
San Antonio joined Houston and El Paso in suing the state to block the law. A Travis County judge declared that the law was unconstitutional, but Friday’s ruling by the Third Court of Appeals reversed that decision.
