A bail reform bill in Texas, which would have prevented bail from being given to illegal immigrants accused of committing crime, has failed to get enough support. Crime victim advocates say what should have been a bipartisan effort was blocked by democrats.

April Aguirre with the group “Voice for Victims” says that state lawmakers did pass a similar bill this session. It requires local law enforcement agencies to partner with federal immigration officials to identify illegal immigrants in county jails. The goal, she says, is to keep them locked up until trial.
