Charges are dropped against former San Antonio police officer James Brennand, accused of shooting a teenager nearly four years ago. The Bexar  County D-A’s Office dismissed the case on Monday.

Brennand was fired from the SAPD after shooting 17-year-old Erik Cantu outside a North Side McDonald’s in October 2022. Cantu survived and has been arrested six times since then.

Brennand was set to stand trial next week for aggravated assault by a public servant. The DA’s office said the case was dismissed because of an ongoing investigation into Cantu.
