US Senator Ted Cruz is moving to make groups that fund violent protests subject to federal laws that target organized crime. The Texas Republican introduced a bill last week to include rioting in the list of activities covered by the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
Prosecutors use RICO to charge groups of people involved in criminal activity. Cruz wants the groups funding violent anti-ICE protests to be held accountable. He says the change in the law wouldn’t put peaceful protests at risk.
